the colored pencil artistry of Lori Garner

I have had a love-affair with drawing since I was old enough to get a pencil in my hands. At age two, I did a pretty nifty drawing of Mickey Mouse!

I worked strictly in graphite until December 1999 when I took a try at using color to do a portrait of my husband, Richard, playing the guitar. It was a real challenge, but I liked playing with the colors and the results were satisfactory enough that I was eager to learn more about this wonderful medium.

I have spent hours and hours looking at websites, reading books on the subject, reading and posting to message boards, and trying my hand (pardon the pun) with different techniques, papers, pencils and styles. I love working in photo-realism the best, but try to experiment with other styles as well. I love art that tells a story, or one that evokes a feeling or invites the viewer to take a closer look.
